Imagine taking a nail and pounding it halfway into a wall.
Then going “Oh my god I’ve got to put a nail over here” and putting another in halfway.
Then at the at end of the day, having 365 nails all halfway tapped all over the place without having finished anything.
Why?
Because you’re bouncing around and you didn’t commit to hitting in one nail in at a time.
We often spend so much time in our life being in ‘reaction mode’ to all the demands around us.
The texts, the phone calls, the never-ending emails…
Many contractors create a plan, but the minute they start their day they get a text, a call, email, or something happens on the job site or at home and everything planned goes out the window.
Then often they get to the end of the day feeling tired and worn out from being busy all day without any idea of what they got accomplished or if they even moved the needle forward at all.
So, instead of responding to how life shows up.
Live with focused actions and intentions that lead to the outcomes that you want.
The way that you do this is by taking time to think.
Which might not sound very sexy at all…
But thinking clearly is critical work.
Have dedicated time every week to get super clear about who you want to be, the life you really want, and what actions you need to take to have the highest impact – then prioritise it.
It could be isolated time in the office, it could be while going for a walk or working out, it could be sitting in your yard drinking coffee on a Sunday ‘brain dumping’ everything into iPhone notes…
The point is…
Set aside time to think about what’s important instead of rushing through the week reacting to everything going on around you.
Taking time to think and plan is going to set you on the road to the life and business that you want, and it’s going to keep you from having a bunch of half set nails all over the place.
So, think about your own last 30 days…
How many things did you start and not finish?
How many things did you start and finish that weren’t crucial to your goals?
It’s very easy for contractors to get distracted so here are two key takeaways to help get you closer to where you want to be in life:
1. Have a minimum of 1 hour thinking time per week (even 10 mins a day) to dial in where your attention needs to be.
2. FINISH. Be the type of person who has the discipline to see things through (no more half set nails).
